Iowa Code Chapter 123 does not allow possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages on public school property. The code does not allow possession or consumption while attending a public or private school-related function.

2. A person shall not use or consume alcoholic liquor, wine, or beer upon the public streets or highways. A person shall not use or consume alcoholic liquor in any public place except premises covered by a retail alcohol license. A person shall not possess or consume alcoholic liquors, wine, or beer on public school property or while attending a public or private school-related function. A person shall not be intoxicated in a public place. A person violating this subsection is guilty of a simple misdemeanor.
Policies Required to Ensure Compliance
- Adults-only social, charitable event.
- No student learning and no student extracurricular activity at the event.
- Children/Students do not attend the event.
- Children/Students do not work at the event.
- Children/Students do not participate in the event (examples student choral groups, student band groups, and/or any other performance by students).
