GovConnectIowa will contain all tax periods for each account, even periods filed prior to GovConnectIowa going live. You can file amended returns for old tax periods within GovConnectIowa. To amend returns filed outside of GovConnectIowa, you can simply file a new return for the tax period. If you discover an error on a previously filed return, you should file an amended return and pay any additional tax due, including interest.

No, a printable summary of submitted W-2 and 1099 information is not available in GovConnectIowa. You can view all of your submissions in GovConnectIowa by selecting Search Submissions on the I Want To... screen.
The best method for submitting payments is electronically through GovConnectIowa. This ensures the payment is applied to the correct filing. A paper payment may be submitted after the return submission. Include the voucher provided after submitting your return when mailing your payment.
Note: Semimonthly filers are required to pay electronically.

You are only providing information for the cans/bottles, not the case. We need to know the numeric volume of liquid in the can/bottle (volume) and the measuring unit used (ounces, liters, etc).
- Volume = Total amount of liquid. This will be a numeric figure (i.e. 12, 16, 20, etc)
- Volume Units = The unit measurement used for the contain (i.e. ounces, liters, etc)
To register a new business, you will need a GovConnectIowa account. Once you have created your account, use the following instructions to register your new business.
- Go to govconnect.iowa.gov
- Log in to your GovConnectIowa account.
- Click Register a New Business to get started.
- Follow the prompts on the screens to complete the business registration.
- Once the New Business Registration has been submitted, a confirmation number will appear on the screen.
Keep this confirmation number for your records.
All drafts in GovConnectIowa will be saved for 30 days.
Passwords will expire after 18 months. You will be prompted when it's time to change your password.
For GovConnectIowa: Go to GovConnectIowa and select Forgot Password? Enter the email address associated with your account. If the information you provided matches our records, you will receive a link to reset your password.
If you just created a username and password, you will need to request a letter from the Department with a unique Access Code to complete the registration. All first time payments submitted through GovConnectIowa are required to be verified with the taxpayer's bank to ensure compliance with banking industry rules. The verification process can take up to 5 business days before the payment is applied to the tax liability, and may cause a balance due. This may result in penalty and interest, which will be automatically removed once the payment has been successfully applied.
Payments must be transmitted by 4 p.m. central time on the due date to be considered timely.

No, there is not a limit to the number of usernames that can have access to an account. However, owners should regularly review their access and delete any users who should no longer have access.
You can make payments electronically through GovConnectIowa, using a bank account or credit card. The Department of Revenue also accepts payments through the mail or delivered in-person.
All UPCs for cans and bottles (alcohol and non-alcohol) should be registered with the Iowa Department of Revenue through GovConnectIowa.
Before starting the registration process with the Iowa Department of Revenue, you must have specific information about your business:
- Legal name, location, and mailing address of the business
- Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
- NAICS code
- Name, address, and social security number of all managing owners, partners, or officers
- Contact email address and phone number
If three (3) failed password attempts occur, you will be locked out of GovConnectIowa and must reset your password. You can reset your password by going to GovConnectIowa and selecting Forgot Password?
Your client may need to update their records with the Iowa Department of Revenue. We recommend updating the address through GovConnectIowa; however, if you are not connected to the tax account, an authorized representative may update the address by submitting the Iowa Business Tax Change (92-033) or contacting the Iowa Department of Revenue.

NAICS stands for North American Industry Classification System Code. The Department requires NAICS codes for all business registrations.
- You can look up your NAICS code before you begin registration or during the registration process.
Unlike an SSN or FEIN, your IDR ID is generated by the Iowa Department of Revenue. It is assigned to taxpayers and businesses with accounts in the Department's systems. Your IDR ID is unique to you; think of it as your or the entity's identification number for the Department. This number can also be used to sign up for GovConnectIowa during the verification process.
If your bank requires the Iowa Department of Revenue's Bank Filter (Company-ID), it is 9426004574 for payments submitted in GovConnectIowa.

GovConnectIowa users will be logged out of their account after 30 minutes of inactivity.
As part of the Department's modernization efforts, account and permit numbers were updated when they were transitioned into GovConnectIowa.
- All taxpayers have been issued an IDR ID.
- Current permit or account numbers can be located on the Summary tab when logged in to GovConnectIowa, or on recent correspondence from the Department.
- Withholding Permits: Previously assigned 12-digit withholding numbers have been assigned a new 9-digit number. Both the old 12-digit number and the new 9-digit number will be accepted when filing, but the Department suggests using the 9-digit number when possible.
- All previously assigned tax permit numbers will still be on file with the Department, and can be used when filing or verifying your account.
If multiple users have access to your accounts through GovConnectIowa, another user may have submitted the item as well. Each user has an individual login and can create and submit items, potentially resulting in duplicate submissions. Users have limited ability to see another user’s drafts. The Department recommends coordinating with the other users to ensure duplicate submissions are not filed.
