The Iowa Department of Revenue offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to pay by credit or debit card online. This service is safe, reliable, and in accordance with all state and government regulations.

Fees for Paying by Credit/Debit Card

When paying by credit/debit card, a service fee is charged for each payment transaction. This fee is charged by the payment provider to the card being used.

The Iowa Department of Revenue does not receive or charge any fees for payments.

You will be asked to enter information such as:

• The type of tax or fee
• A bill or invoice number
• Your card information
• The amount of the current tax payment or billed delinquent payment
• Your Social Security Number, business permit number, or federal identification number

The system will:

• Tell you the total of your payment including the appropriate fee
• Obtain approval of the charge
• Issue an onscreen confirmation number and a printable digital receipt
• Send a confirmation email to users who request it
• Separate the charges on your card statement: the tax amount on one line, the convenience fee amount on a separate line

Payments made by taxpayers outside of the United States

Taxpayers who live outside of the United States can submit credit card payments through GovConnectIowa or ACH payments through the bank. If submitting an ACH payment through GovConnectIowa, the payment must be made through a bank located in the United States.

NOTE: If your bank requires the Iowa Department of Revenue's ePay Bank Filter (Company-ID) it is GovConnectIowa: 9426004574

ACH Debit

ACH debit blocks are set up with a bank to protect bank account(s) from unauthorized electronic charges. If you or your business have an ACH debit block set up on your banking account, you must provide your bank with the Department’s Company ID to make payments using GovConnectIowa.

What should you do?

• Contact your bank and provide the Department’s Company ID: 9426004574.

If you don't provide your bank with the Department’s Company-ID, your bank will reject the payment.

If your payment is rejected, you may receive a bill for the amount due, including any applicable penalty and interest. If you are unsure about whether you have a debit block on your bank account, please contact your bank.

ACH Credit

This electronic payment option is available for these business taxes:

• Withholding tax
• Sales and Use tax
• Water Service Excise tax
• Fuel Tax
• Corporate income tax

Note: Individual Income tax may not be paid by ACH Credit.

ACH Credit transactions must be initiated a day before the due date.

When paying by ACH Credit, you must provide our ACH Credit bank account information to your bank instead of providing us with your bank account information.

First contact your bank for further information about their ACH Credit payment services and cost. Then open, review, and follow our required ACH Credit Payment Instructions. You may share these instructions with your bank.

Additional Information:

If you file a tax return showing a zero balance due, do not initiate a zero ACH Credit payment.

Transaction reversals are not allowed from the State’s bank account. For questions regarding misapplied payments, please contact the Iowa Department of Revenue at 855-314-4692 or idreft@iowa.gov.

Iowa withholding, sales and use, water service excise, fuel tax returns, and alcohol reports are filed through the Department's Online Services. A tax report or return must still be filed when payment is made by ACH Credit.

Payments made by taxpayers outside of the United States

If you prefer to pay by sending us a check or money order instead of paying through GovConnectIowa, there is an option to print a payment voucher after you file your return. All checks and money orders must be mailed with a payment voucher.

Print a payment voucher

• Go to GovConnectIowa
• Navigate to the Financial Services section 
• Select Print a Payment Voucher
• Follow the on-screen prompts to create the payment voucher

Make sure your check includes the following information:

• Your name and address
• Account number or employer identification number
• Tax year or period
• Related form or notice number

The mailing address is located on the letter or voucher received from the Department.

The Department offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to pay taxes and fees in person at the Iowa Department of Revenue Office.
